First I'm going to list all of the Pieces that I have chosen for
for my Dream Recital. Then I will go over each one of them
and say why I chose them and if I can play them now or in the
future - and what they mean to me.
I've been to enough Piano Recitals that I realize that this would
not be the order in which they would be Played - but I'll talk
about that Last.

Fur Elise by Ludwig von Beethoven
Nocturne No. 3 in Aflat M by Franz Liszt (Liebestraume)
Prelude in CM No.1 by Johann Sebastian Bach
Partita in Cm (BWV 826) by Johann Sebastian Bach
Sonata in CM (KV 330) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Sonata in CM Opus 53 by Ludwig von Beethoven
Etude in Aflat M Opus 25 by Frederic Chopin
Etude in C# m Opus 25 by Frederic Chopin
Etude in Cm Opus 10 by Frederic Chopin
Allegro Barbaro by Bela Bartok
Fur Elise and Bach's Prelude in C win points because I can somewhat play them.
ReplyDeletePiano pieces I like a lot include Bach's Siciliano and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. (The Bach piece being originally for flute and harp but both versions are very good.) I'm guessing their both written in minor chords...they both have a sense of beauty in sadness.
Concertos I'd stick with Grieg in A minor and Tchaikovsky 1 (B flat minor?) And Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody is another good one.
...not that I could ever play any of those.

Mike- The key of CM just makes it easier - doesn't it. I picked the Beethoven Sonatas and the Mozart Sonatas also because of that -but of course they have other good qualities too. : ]
ReplyDeleteFur Elise are both great because not only are they really great but they are playable.
I like to play the Bach Prelude first in the way it was perhaps meant to be played and then I like to play it super fast in my own way.
I love the Moonlight Sonata - but I like to play it so that it isn't just boring and always the same. Kinda spice it up. It can put you to sleep.
Mike - First thing when I get up this morning I check to see if you say anything here - and you mentioned Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. He actually wrote 19 of them but the No. 2 is the most popular. So I start to listen to a video of it and spot one that says Lang Lang goes crazy at the piano. I click on it - and it's only 5:22 long - but I'm tellin' ya Mike - this guy is good.
ReplyDeleteAnd he's having fun - and the audience goes wild at the end. He's even good at his bows.
Well that's all for now - I guess I'd better scrub the kitchen floor today. Because after seeing what some people can do at the Piano - it's f*ing depressin' Mike. I probably won't play for a week now.
